(More customer reviews)I have tried four other salad spinners, crank type, cord-pull type, etc., and have not been satisfied with any.Some slid around on the counter, some were awkward to use and one simply retained too much sand and dirt in the inner basket.
I bought both the large and small sizes in stainless steel and am perfectly satisfied.The weight and the non-slip base keeps the bowl in place and the inner baskets spin easily and have just the right sized mesh openings.I use the little one for de-hulling sprouts, which can ordinarily be a chore but is very easy, especially with the sprouts that have very tiny seeds that cling to the sprout root threads.
The large bowl easily handles very large leafy greens without crowding and I find it especially useful for removing the sand from split and coarsely chopped leeks.
In my opinion, these are well designed, efficient and attractive.No need to hide them away as, unlike the plastic ones, they will not discolor.

(More customer reviews)This item was a "gold box" impulse buy that I've never had to regret.As with other OXO products, the innovation and overall quality are excellent.Yes, this spinner is a few more dollars than other similar products.But the difference is money well spent.The ridgid plastic construction is much more substantial than a typical flimsy spinner, which helps reduce wobble as it spins.Since the clear bowl is not perforated, it offers the ability to soak your salad greens to clean and crispen them up a bit if they are becoming wilted.It also works well to serve the salad at the table or to save it in the refridgerator if you have enough space.Personally, I usually just dump the leftovers into a large zip-lock bag.This will keep them fresh for several days.

(More customer reviews)I probably go through at least six heads of lettuce a week in my house, and since I'm not into eating dirt, organic or not, I need a sturdy salad spinner.This is not it.I don't mind that I have to empty the bowl and spin again.What I do mind is that the rip-cord stopped "catching" properly after a couple of weeks, and then snapped free after a couple of months.

I've seen this on sale several places, and if you only need to wash lettuces once or twice a week and you can get it cheap, then it might be worth it.But if you're into preparing salads every day and need to use it on a daily basis, it's not worth it. It's too bad because it's good-looking.

Oxo SteeL Salad Spinner Review

(More customer reviews)We had an older, plastic OXO salad spinner for many years and it worked great and was built with a very durable spinner mechanism. We "upgraded" to this version when we dropped our old one and cracked the bowl. Unfortunately we have had the same experience as several other reviewers here - the spinner mechanism broke after only a few uses. It seems that if the inner basket has any significant amount of weight (from wet greens) in it and you press firmly on the spinner mechanism there is some plastic part that snaps inside the mechanism (at least that is how it sounded when it happened).

To OXO's great credit, however, their customer service has been fantastic so far in getting us setup for a refund (not a replacement - we would just break it again I'm sure).

(More customer reviews)This is my favorite salad spinner, and I've tried several over the last couple years.It dries my lettuce very well, and has some useful features that I haven't seen in other spinners.

Like the old Zyliss spinner, you pull on a handle to spin the basket.But with this one the more you pull, the faster it spins, kind of like revving up a top or something. It spins much faster than those 'crank' spinners or the 'push down' type -and faster spinning means more water off your veggies.

As for the new features, here are my top five:

1) The lid is clear, so you can see the veggies spinning around in there and make sure you're not overfilling the spinner, the lettuce isnt bunching up in one corner, etc. OK, it's also just mesmerizing to watch your food spin round and round.Kind of like watching your clothes roll around in the dryer.

2) There is a brake! So after you've whippedyour veggies into a frenzy, you can slam them to a stop -which also helps get more water off.This works better on the small sized spinner, since there is less weight to stop, but even on the big spinner it works very well.I have seen a brake on another spinner, but this one works much better.

3) The cord pulls itself back in -and gently: I disliked how the old 'string' spinners would yank on your arm, and if you didn't respond just right the string wouldn't pull in at all: it ends up just sitting there in a pile.You'd have to take the lid off and wind it up yourself!This new design winds the cord up every time.

4) The basket is smooth on the inside -that's something I defintely have not seen before.It's a subtle feature, but very helpful: it helps make sure little bits of your lettuce dont get stuck in the basket when you're cleaning it out.

5) You can stack things on top of it, both in the fridge and in the cupboard, because the top is mostly flat.The handle even sits in its own little pocket in the lid so that it's not in the way.In my house fridge space is valuable and I appreciate being able to stack this spinner like I do with my tupperware.

So, overall I am impressed with this spinner (so impressed that I've also given it as a gift!).It does its job very well and has thoughtful extra features which make it more helpful around the kitchen.

Zyliss Easy Spin 4-6 Serving Salad Spinner Review

(More customer reviews)I've had my Zyliss salad spinner for a few years, and now I'm replacing it. And it's for the dumbest reason, too! Most of the unit is lasting fine. I use it at least 4-5 times per week, and I fill it pretty much every time. However, I must not be gentle enough with it. The spinning action is transmitted to the basket by 6 little plastic tabs on the edges of the lid mechanism. One by one, those tabs have broken off, and now the mechanism no longer fully engages with the basket. I can still get it to spin up if I pull and pull and pull; the basket spins slowly, then faster, and then finally catches up with the lid mechanism and responds fully to my pulling. So it's still usable; just not very practical. I wish I could fix the little tabs instead of replacing the whole thing, but I guess at least I will have an extra basket and bowl if I ever want to do two batches of something without emptying the bowl.

Edit to add: I got my new spinner, and am pleased to note that the plastic tabs that I spoke of have been replaced with much sturdier ones -- instead of being one layer, they're now each a little square of plastic, which should be nearly impossible to break. I'm very happy with the new version, and would change my review to 5 stars if I could!

I was reluctant to spend money on one and was content to use the $5 I had from Walmart.. which did the bare minimum and no more. This Chef'n salad spinner works perfectly and the best part (which was a problem with my last spinner) is the rubber on the bottom which keeps it from slipping on the counter. Really convenient to store as well.

string types etc had mixed reviews.I have to say that the original which lasted
me 8+ years until someone threw the bowl in the dishwasher, was fantastic.
The only con was the fact that the dishwasher destroyed the bowl which cracked up.
Guess my children might have sat on it and broken it etc also, was considering the
stainless steel version, but fell in love with this versions looks, and the handy
light weight feel.

To describe this version, the outside bowl is clear, the inside colander and all
trim are green.Very pleasant to look at vs the clinical clear, black and white looks
of the original.It is beautifully designed with a non- slip base, a lock so that the pop up
handle which you press down to spin can be locked down for storage, and a button
to stop the spin immediately with a brake.All features identical to the old version.

Red Carpet Studios Ltd. Cosmix Spinner Mosaic - 11" long Review

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these spinners to suspend from a garden gazebo above a bird bath (on a wire about two feet long).It's very pretty out of the box and spins very well.Unfortunately, it's pretty flimsy and I needed some modification to make mine work.

First, it weighs almost nothing, so while it spins fine in a gentle breeze, any strong gusts or winds toss it around like a beach ball (which throws off its spinning).I solved this problem by drilling a hole in the base of the cage and affixing the heaviest cabinet knob I could find at the hardware store as a counterweight.Now it spins beautifully even when the wind is really blowing.

Second, my model has a glass teardrop in the center, which swings and spins freely from the cage.Due to the design of the blades of the cage, this tear drop can swing between two of the blades and then become wedged between them as the rotating blades "sweep" it up.It remains caught until you manually untangle it.On mine, this happened about every ten minutes.I solved this problem by using a small piece of copper wire to affix the "spring" the teardrop sits in to the bottom of the cage (conveniently using the same screw I used to affix the cabinet knob).

With those two problems fixed, it's now a very eye-catching decoration for my backyard and I'm happy with it.It just would have been nice not to have to reinforce it myself.

On an unrelated note, the directions recommend putting a coat of car wax on it once a year if you want to keep it shiny.I put on a couple of coats of clear enamel spray paint instead.
